Reliance unhappy with Aker Solutions

Vol 20, PW 12 (09 Mar 17) News in Brief

Reliance is believed to be unhappy with Norway's Aker Solutions which is providing inspection, repair and maintenance services to underwater equipment at KG-D6.

Reliance's unhappiness, we hear, follows Aker's decision to raise fees for its personnel deployed at KG-D6. "Reliance has renewed the Aker (Solutions) contract till around September 2018," says a source.

"But it's unhappy Aker raised rates for its personnel when costs the world over are down by up to 30%. Aker personnel carrying out these services are well paid.

Even a 15% increase in their day rates adds up to a lot." Over the past two months Reliance has held talks with several contractors to replace Aker for providing software, inspection, repair and maintenance of underwater tools and equipment. Asked to respond, Aker Solutions said: "On general principle, we do not comment on the details of customer contracts." Reliance's 10-year contract for the Dhirubhai-1 FPSO with Aker Floating Production also runs until September 2018.

Dhirubhai-1 can process 60,000 b/d oil, 15m cm/d gas and store 1.3m barrels of oil.
