Houston-based oilfield service company National Oilwell Varco (NOV) will move to a modern repair facility at Rabale in Navi Mumbai by April.

“The new facility is under construction but nearing completion,” a NOV source confirms to PETROWATCH. He adds the facility, adjacent to the company’s established workshop, will have five levels of working space covering 35,000 square feet to cater to NOV’s growing repairs, technical support and re-certification business for all NOV-supplied equipment operating in India.

“In India we don’t have rigs,” our source clarifies. “We repair and certify rigs.

” More, the company says it is setting up a state of the art centre to train rig crew on using Amphion, its fully integrated networked rig control system. NOV shut its Houma facility in Louisiana on January 20 and laid off 80 workers, after axing more than 2400 jobs in Norway last year.

NOV’s India operations were set up in 2006 by country manager Kedarnath Narayan and has 300 employees across India.
