Newsco beats Udipta in ONGC tender

Vol 18, PW 24 (30 Jul 15) News in Brief

Canada-based Newsco International has won an ONGC tender to provide directional drilling and Measurement While Drilling (MWD) services for three years.

Newsco won the tender by quoting around $9m against $10m quoted by second-ranked Udipta Energy. ONGC opened price bids at its Sivasagar asset in Upper Assam on July 13.

Weatherford and Schlumberger ranked third and fourth. "Bids were submitted in early May," we hear.

"ONGC took time evaluating them." Newsco expects to receive a LoA from ONGC "within two weeks" and will get 70 days from the date of award to mobilise three 'kits' to location. A source points out ONGC will probably be using Newsco mainly for development drilling, as exploratory wells don't usually have directional drilling.

An ONGC source at Sivasagar adds Newsco was the most competitive as it already has three 'kits' at location under a previous contract. Newsco has operations in the US, India, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Russia and Dubai.
