Sengupta gets Shashi Shankar's job

Vol 18, PW 20 (04 Jun 15) News in Brief

While it is unlikely that Shashi Shankar will get reinstated as ONGC director technical and field services (T&FS), an optimistic company source believes it could still go either way.

And yet the post has been given as an additional charge to director offshore TK Sengupta. PETROWATCH learns a formal ministry order was issued on May 23 appointing Sengupta, 58, to the role, responsible for hiring rigs and services.

"The order states Sengupta will hold the additional charge for six months," says an ONGC source. VP Mahawar, 57, ONGC's incoming director onshore has been holding the post of Officer on Special Duty at the T&FS department since the ministry abruptly suspended Shankar in February.

Shankar held the post of director (T&FS) since December 2012. In April, Shankar met oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan and (then) oil secretary Saurabh Chandra to protest his innocence over alleged irregularities in a tender to buy 21 BoPs, originally issued in 2008.
