BPRL prepares six-well campaign in Gujarat

Vol 18, PW 17 (23 Apr 15) Exploration & Production

BPCL upstream subsidiary Bharat Petro Resources (BPRL) has invited EoIs for its maiden six-well exploration campaign at CB-ONN-2010/8.

"They (BPRL) want to begin drilling in the third quarter of this calendar year," confirms EnQuest Petrosolutions, PMC for the drilling campaign, which issued the tender on April 5 for a 1000-hp land rig. "April 23 is the EoI deadline.

" Among companies likely to respond are John Energy, Quippo, COFOR, and Weatherford, all hit hard by Cairn's decision in February to decommission their rigs. "John has one or two 1000-hp rigs sitting idle," adds EnQuest.

"Quippo will also offer either its own rigs or Shiv Vani rigs.” COFOR has one 1000-hp rig idle and Weatherford has two 1000-hp rigs idle.

BPRL plans to drill four of the six wells to 2000 metres and the remaining two to 1800 metres. EnQuest has also invited EoIs for a topographical survey across the six drilling sites; land acquisition; wellheads, Christmas trees, test plugs, valves, casing/tubing and other tools.

EoIs for these are due by April 24 with EnQuest targeting to evaluate EoIs by end-May. “It is up to BPRL when they issue the tenders,” adds EnQuest.

“They should issue them by June if they want to begin drilling by October.” BPRL is a 100% subsidiary of Bharat Petroleum and launched itself as an upstream operator when it won this block in NELP-IX.
