Fugro wins Oil India survey contract

Vol 18, PW 16 (09 Apr 15) News in Brief

Oil India signed a contract with Fugro Survey India on April 7 to carry out offshore studies at Cauvery basin shallow water block CY-OSN-2009/2 ahead of a two-well exploration campaign.

Fugro will carry out 15 days of met-ocean observations and five days of geo-physical surveys at the two proposed drilling sites 4A and 5, near each other in water depths of 400 metres. Fugro will also observe sea currents for two weeks after the rig reaches location but before drilling begins.

Oil India issued the offshore studies tender on September 22, 2014 to four short-listed bidders, but only Fugro and Horizon Survey passed the technical evaluation. Fugro's price bid was opened in March after Horizon pulled out, unable to meet Oil India's request to interpret seismic in-house at its Noida office.

Fugro is believed to have quoted Rs5cr ($803,384) and was issued the LoA on March 9. NELP-VIII Block CY-OSN-2009/2 lies in the Gulf of Mannar between India and Sri Lanka.
