INDIANOIL: Ray suspended for leak to Reliance

Unauthorised e-mail correspondence with a former IndianOil director refineries today working for Reliance is at the centre of an investigation into the suspension on February 27 of IndianOil general manager and incoming R&D director Debangshu Ray.

A well-placed source tells us the initial complaint against Ray, 55, was from a colleague in the refineries division who told IndianOil director refineries Sanjiv Singh. In turn Singh told IndianOil chairman B.

Ashok who ordered the IT department to track Ray’s emails. “Ray forwarded an email to RK Ghosh,” we hear.

“This information was not sensitive and could easily have been revealed under RTI (Right to Information).” Ghosh retired from IndianOil on June 30, 2014 as director refineries to be replaced by Singh.

As recently as January 28 (2015) the two men appeared together at the Chemtech World Expo 2015 conference in Mumbai. On the invitation card, below a gleaming photo of Ghosh, is written, ‘President – Reliance Industries Ltd’, raising further questions over whether he is in breach of government rules banning PSU directors from employment with a direct competitor for two years after retirement.

Contacted by this report Ghosh declined several requests to confirm he works for Reliance or received e-mails from Ray during a conversation lasting two minutes and 25 seconds. In private Reliance confirms Ghosh works for the company but declined to comment on the alleged receipt of e-mails.
