ONGC seismic tender in end-June

Vol 17, PW 22 (19 Jun 14) News in Brief

ONGC is expected to issue a tender by the end of this month (June) to shoot conventional 3D in India’s western offshore.

Industry sources believe the job will be split into three sectors: one for 3400-sq km; another for 2500-sq km; and a third for 1500-sq km. Still unclear is which basins will be targeted.

“We hear ONGC wants this assignment done in one season using two vessels with six streamers, each 8-km long,” says a likely bidder. Another likely bidder says it is difficult to estimate costs without seeing a tender.

"One sector is in very shallow waters with a lot of fishing activity," he says. "Another has marginal fishing activity and the third is near a platform, but we don’t have details.

” Water depths for the assignment will range from four metres to 80 metres. Expect strong competition from most seismic contractors, including PGS, CGGVeritas, WesternGeco, Polarcus, Dolphin Geophysical and SeaBird Exploration.
