NK Verma will be next MD of OVL

ONGC's director exploration NK Verma is returning to OVL as its next managing director.

On May 21, the public selections board PESB chose Verma to fill the post vacated by DK Sarraf who became chairman of parent company ONGC on March 1. Verma’s appointment will take around two months to clear.

"Verma was expected to win," says an OVL officer. "His selection is good for OVL.

" As OVL director exploration for a year before moving to ONGC in April 2013, Verma spearheaded the acquisition of 2.72% in the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli oil project in Azerbaijan and 2.36% in the associated Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. OVL's director finance SP Garg, acting MD since Sarraf's departure, was also a strong contender.

The PESB also interviewed three candidates from ONGC, one from IOC and a culture ministry joint secretary. ONGC director technology and field services Shashi Shanker and Bharat Petro Resources managing director D.

Rajkumar did not attend the interviews despite being shortlisted.
