Race on to replace Nathu Lal as ONGC director

Vol 8, PW 22 (09 Feb 05) News in Brief

Several names are being cited as a possible replacement for ONGC director technology and field services Nathu Lal when he retires on 30th April.

Among the frontrunners are UN Bose, who is presently executive director and chief of drilling service in Mumbai, AT Kali, executive director and head of the deepwater drilling group, also in Mumbai, and SR Athavale, group general manager and head of drilling services. We understand that UN Bose is the clear frontrunner.

Adds a source: You can never be sure because the ultimate decision will be that of the minister (Aiyar). Also in the race are AA Khan, AK Gupta (both from the drilling division), Padam Singh and PK Johri (both from engineering and construction).

Given the highly technical nature of the job only candidates from the drilling or engineering and construction sides are being considered. Nathu Lal was appointed ONGC director on 12th March 2001.
