John in talks to buy Black Pearl

Vol 17, PW 8 (14 Nov 13) News in Brief

Ahmedabad-based driller John Energy is growing its onland fleet to meet demand for 1500-hp and 2000-hp rigs.

John is talking to Dubai-based Black Pearl Services, controlled by Adani Group owner Gautam Adani, to buy 2000-hp land rig Black Pearl, which has been lying idle at Adani Welspun’s Cambay block CB-ONN-2004/5 for two years. "Black Pearl Services is happy to sell the rig for $16m to $18m," we hear.

"Last month (October) John asked (US-based) Oilfield Audit Services to inspect the rig." John is already offering the Le Tourneau rig in an ONGC four rig tender.

John is also talking to Mumbai-based Dewanchand Ramsaran to buy a 1500-hp drilling rig idle at Karaikal in Puducherry. "John and Dewanchand are in talks," confirms a source.

"But there’s nothing concrete. John will soon inspect the rig.

" If John buys Dewanchand's rig, it will offer it to ONGC on hire. After buying Black Pearl, John Energy’s fleet will be 15 drilling and 15 workover rigs.
