Bhandari back in Delhi from Sudan

Vol 17, PW 3 (05 Sep 13) News in Brief

Incoming OVL director exploration Anil Bhandari is back in Delhi from Khartoum where he was Sudan country manager.

Bhandari passed the most important hurdle in his path to promotion as OVL director exploration last month (August) when he won crucial anti-corruption clearance from the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC). Oil ministry officials are now preparing to send his file to the cabinet appointments committee headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh where it will take another month to be processed.

Bhandari, 58, was selected from 14 candidates in June this year to win the prestigious OVL director exploration position vacated on March 31 by NK Verma who moved to parent company ONGC as director exploration. Bhandari surprised many with his selection, won solely on merit.

Anand Sahu, an ED rank officer at ONGC, was an earlier favourite because of backing from company chairman Sudhir Vasudeva.
