Our story 'Shashi Shankar 'euphoric' about his selection' published on June 29 contained a line suggesting that Shankar now holds the record as ONGC's longest serving Board director.

Sundeep Bhandari, CEO of Delhi-based Petrodril disagrees. "The reason for this email is to point out a correction on the longest serving Director that has been reported," Bhandari writes to this report.

"My father LL Bhandari served as Member/Director on the Board of ONGC for nine years from 1984 till his retirement in 1993. I don't know if that was the longest tenure (it probably was) for anyone on the Board of ONGC.

But surely his tenure was longer than Mr. Hazarika as reported - no disrespect intended.

Also in those days the retirement age was 58 so he (LL Bhandari) was probably the youngest to get on to the Board of ONGC."
