Rakesh Jain next CEO of Jubilant

Vol 17, PW 1 (08 Aug 13) News in Brief

If you believe the rumour mill, former Suntera Energy managing director Rakesh Jain could soon be joining Bhartia controlled Jubilant Energy as its new CEO.

Jain has been on sabbatical since 2009 after Suntera, a JV between the Khemka-owned Sun Group and Russian gas company Itera, shut its Indian operations. "Jain is a good friend of Ramesh Bhatia," says a former colleague.

Bhatia, vice-president exploration at Jubilant since April 2009, is holding additional charge as CEO since the abrupt departure of Ajay Khandelwal in February 2013. Khandelwal held the post for three years and seven months.

“Bhatia and Jain worked together at Suntera,” we hear. Before joining Suntera in January 2007, Jain was MD of HOEC from 2003 till 2006 and before that with the Tata Group for 21 years, joining from IIM-Calcutta, one of India’s leading colleges.

He also studied engineering at IIT-Delhi. Those who know Jain say he’s ‘straightforward’.
