Azimut wins Cairn seismic contract

Vol 16, PW 25 (11 Jul 13) News in Brief

Cairn India issued a Letter of Award (LoA) to Kazakhstan-based Azimut Energy on July 3 to shoot 1500-sq km 3D over unexplored areas of its 3111-sq km producing RJ-ON-90/1 block in Rajasthan.

"Cairn has kept open the option for us to shoot another 1300-sq km 3D," says Azimut. Within a day of the LoA, an Azimut team landed in Delhi on July 4 for ‘kick-off’ meetings with Cairn.

“Azimut has begun mobilising crew and equipment,” we hear. “Under the LoA work must begin by October 2013.

” Azimut expects to take two years to shoot 1500-sq km 3D. "But the job might last three if Cairn asks it to shoot the optional 1300-sq km.

" Geofyzika Torun was widely expected to win this job after bids were submitted in February 2013. Cairn also shortlisted Norway-based Global Geo Services; Houston-headquartered Geokinetics; Kazakhstan CaspiyShelf (KCS); and a consortium of Kazakhstan-based Geo Energy and Asian Oilfield.
