A team from the Brussels-based Energy Charter will make its first presentation in Delhi on 6th April seeking Indias membership of this 51-nation initiative.

Weve asked TERI to co-ordinate this event, reveals a source. Its understood the oil, power, law and foreign ministries as well as state-owned oil and gas companies will attend The 6th April presentation.

We have also invited private companies like Reliance. On 16th February, Ria Kemper, Secretary General of the Energy Charter, met oil secretary Sushil Tripathi to make a case for India joining the initiative to mitigate security concerns over the gas pipeline from Iran to India through Pakistan.

Tripathi was told that membership of the Charter could promote foreign investment and protect Delhis investment in other member countries. India has indicated it might initially join as an observer.

India, Pakistan and Iran are not members but Iran is an observer.
