Adani on track with Ahmedabad CGD plans

Vol 8, PW 26 (06 Apr 05) News in Brief

ujarats Adani group is broadening its city gas distribution network in Ahmedabad.

Last month, Adani opened its 10th CNG station to feed the citys auto rickshaws. Only a thousand of the citys 55,000 autos run on CNG, despite a Supreme Court ruling that 5000 should use CNG by March this year.

Adani is also targeting the citys 350 public buses, which should be converted to CNG by the end of May. These will consume about 50,000 cm/d gas.

Adani has so far signed 45 gas sales contracts for 100,000 cm/d gas to consumers in the Vatwa industrial zone and is running a pilot project to supply piped natural gas to households in Ahmedabad, with pipelines being laid in the suburb of Maninagar. Plans are to have 1000 households receiving PNG by end-May.

By 2005-06, Adani estimates 10,000 households will receive gas, consuming about 5000 cm/d. If all goes to plan, Adani wants to sell a total 300,000 cm/d gas by March 2006.
