LNG carrier Aseem is ready to shift its base of operations from the Petronet-LNG terminal at Dahej to Kochi.

Aseem will stop ferrying LNG from Qatar to Dahej around Christmas and will instead begin ferrying LNG to the 5m t/y Kochi LNG terminal in Kerala, expected to be commissioned early next year. Aseem joined Petronet-LNG’s fleet on December 30, 2009 and has since transported Qatari LNG to Dahej.

She is registered in Valetta, Malta, but managed by Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) and owned by a Mitsui OSK Lines-led consortium. Petronet-LNG signed a 20-year Time Charter Agreement with Mitsui for the 154,800-cubic metre capacity carrier on February 21, 2006.

Separately, Petronet-LNG issued a tender this June to hire a 216,000-cubic metre capacity Q-Flex tanker to ferry LNG to Kochi from Australia’s Gorgon project and has received bids from SCI and a Japanese consortium of Mitsui OSK Lines, NYK Line, and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha.
