GAIL Gas wants to replace JP Kenny

Vol 16, PW 4 (06 Sep 12) News in Brief

UK-based JP Kenny - owned by Wood Group - has not done well helping GAIL Gas meet its CGD targets.

GAIL Gas on August 8 invited bids to replace JP Kenny or revive its PMC contract to manage tenders with contractors, which ends on October 31. Expect JP Kenny, UK-based Mott MacDonald and state-owned companies MECON and Projects and Development India to bid by September 19.

All attended a pre-bid in the Delhi suburb of Noida on August 22. GAIL Gas hired JP Kenny on July 1, 2009 for Rs7.5cr ($1.5m) for three years, later granting a four-month extension.

As of December 31, 2011, GAIL Gas had connected only 75 homes in Dewas in Madhya Pradesh; 25 in Kota in Rajasthan; 507 in Sonepat in Haryana; and 425 in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. When it won these cities in the first CGD round it committed to connect 37,000 households at Dewas in five years; 100,000 at Kota; 60,000 households at Sonepat; and 125,000 homes in Meerut.
