Reliance wants DD-KG1 back from ONGC

Reliance and partner BP are firming up drilling locations for 10 proposed exploration and development wells at its gas producing KG-D6 block and several NELP blocks.

For this Reliance is likely to want Transocean-owned and operated deepwater drillship Dhirubhai Deepwater KG-1 (DD-KG1) back sooner than expected from ONGC, which has taken the rig on a sub-let contract until July 2013. “Reliance will need DD-KG1 before July,” says an industry source.

“It will need at least two rigs to drill 10 wells.” Another Transocean rig Dhirubhai Deepwater KG-2 (DD-KG2) is expected to return to Reliance in October.

She was sublet to Petronas Carigali at an ODR of $510,000 till April 2013, and is presently drilling in Malaysia but will sail to Mozambique in September. In Mozambique, DD-KG2 must drill one well by October 5 before returning to India to drill one exploration well at KG-D6.

Reliance has hired DD-KG1 till July 2014 at an ODR of $563,488.
