Vol 16, PW 3 (23 Aug 12) News in Brief

Oil India director exploration and development BN Talukdar is a happy man.

This month 57-year-old Talukdar secured an extension to keep his job for another three years until he retires at 60. Talukdar was scheduled to step down on November 30 after five years as director exploration.

“PESB members reviewed Talukdar’s performance reports for the last three years,” reveals a source. “They unanimously granted his extension.

” Over the last three years Talukdar is credited with increasing oil and gas production at Oil India’s Assam fields from 2.5m t/y to 3.75m t/y. He appeared for Oil India chairman interviews last October but was beaten by then DGH chief SK Srivastava.

Again in April this year Talukdar unsuccessfully tried to move to the DGH as director general, some say because he did not want to report to former colleague Srivastava who is Oil India chairman. But oil minister Jaipal Reddy appointed bureaucrat RN Choubey as DGH chief instead.
