MM Srivastava tipped as new GSPC chairman

Vol 16, PW 2 (09 Aug 12) News in Brief

GSPC will soon have a new chairman to fill this ceremonial but symbolic role.

PETROWATCH learns additional chief secretary (finance) MM Srivastava who retired on July 31 is tipped to replace current incumbent AK Joti, who is also chief secretary in the state government. “Joti is overloaded with work,” says a source.

For many Srivastava is an ideal candidate. Close to chief minister Narendra Modi, he is a former principal secretary in the Gujarat state energy department and for several years was a GSPC board director.

“Another plus is he gets on well with (GSPC managing director) Tapan Ray,” we hear. Ray, meanwhile, figures on a list of 44 civil servants published on July 26 from across India who have been ‘empanelled’, or told they can expect a transfer to Delhi.

“Ray would like to go to Delhi,” we hear. “But Modi won’t let him.

” Ray could not be contacted as he is in Srinagar for talks on the GSPC-backed Bhatinda to Srinagar pipeline.
