Perro Negro 3

Vol 15, PW 17 (08 Mar 12) News in Brief

Last month (February) Eni-subsidiary Hindustan Oil Exploration Company (HOEC) hired jack-up Perro Negro 3 from sister company Saipem to workover two wells and complete a gas producer at its PY-1 gasfield offshore Tamil Nadu.

HOEC began looking for an ‘independent leg cantilever’ jack-up back in October 2010 and besides Saipem received offers from Transocean, Jindal Drilling and Aban Offshore. In June last year HOEC held negotiations with Transocean to hire Harvey H.

Ward but talks fizzled out. HOEC will pay around $90,000/day EDR for the Saipem rig, which is currently in the Middle East but expected to reach PY-1 in April.

Once mobilised, Perro Negro 3 is likely to complete its HOEC assignment within 150 days. PY-1 currently produces 900,000 cm/d of gas from two wells – down from the 1.3m cm/d it was producing from three wells when it came on-stream in November 2010.

‘Water Ingress’, or entry of water into the well bore, is blamed for declining production at the gasfield.
