Vol 13, PW 10 (22 Oct 09) News in Brief

After five years in India, Saipem-owned jack-up Perro Negro 3 looks set to end up in Iran after drilling on India’s eastern offshore.

PETROWATCH learns that on October 12, Perro Negro 3 was released from its five-year contract with GSPC, where it was drilling at gas discovery block KG-OSN-2001/ 3. Iranian drilling contractor Dana Drilling is now set to hire Perro Negro 3, we hear.

“Dana has visited and seen the rig,â€‌ says a source at Saipem, a fully owned Eni subsidiary. “We expect Dana to sign a contract within the next 120 days.

â€‌ Perro Negro 3 will be â€کdry-towed’ to Sharjah in the UAE, where it will be â€کdry-docked’ until its next assignment. On October 15, a barge picked up Perro Negro 3 at Vizag, before setting sail.

“It will take 12-14 days to â€کdry-tow’ the jack-up to Sharjah,â€‌ adds our source. GSPC considered Perro Negro 3 a â€کlucky’ rig after it struck gas at well KG#8 at the Deen Dayal block.

In 2007, the rig was fitted with a 15,000-psi BOP stack and can drill in 300-feet water depths.
