Surprisingly, only two companies are in the race to win an estimated $150m ONGC contract to shoot ‘high resolution seismic’ at its producing Mumbai High offshore oil and gasfields.

PETROWATCH learns on November 15 only CGGVeritas and rank newcomer Rajasthan Khanij & Ispat Udyog submitted technical and price bids in ONGC’s tender to shoot 1500-sq km 3D using Ocean Bottom Cable (OBC) technology. Rajasthan Khanij named Russian seismic contractor MGS as its ‘collaborator.

’ “Eight or nine companies bought tender documents,” says an industry source. “But only two submitted bids because of ONGC’s tight mobilisation schedule.

” ONGC wants the selected contractor to mobilise crew and equipment before the monsoon rains begin on India’s west coast, by May 2012. This will be tight even if ONGC awards the contract this month.

More, the contractor will be forced to stop work once the monsoon begins, and keep its equipment idle till the next season.
