SK Srivastava

Vol 15, PW 10 (17 Nov 11) News in Brief

SK Srivastava must feel betrayed after giving nearly 30 years of his career to state-owned junior explorer Oil India.

PETROWATCH learns last week nearly 500 Oil India employees gathered to protest against the selection of DGH boss Srivastava to replace Oil India chairman NM Borah who retires as chairman on April 30, 2012. “People were chanting slogans deriding Srivastava’s selection as he is not from Assam,” says a company source.

“They gathered outside our office.” Protestors, he adds, demanded to know why Srivastava was selected by the PESB over Oil India director exploration BN Talukdar, who is from the north-eastern Indian state where the company has traditionally been based.

“We told protestors that Srivastava was selected by the government based on merit,” we hear. “We also asked them to submit a letter registering their complaint.

” This is not the first time an ‘outsider’ is Oil India chairman. Former chairman MR Pasrija wasn’t from Assam either.
