ONGC is likely to secure one-year extensions to the Petroleum Exploration Licences (PELs) at its Bokaro and North Karanpura CBM blocks in Jharkhand.

“We want ONGC to perform,” says an oil ministry official. “We are willing to recommend it to Jharkhand state authorities for the PEL extensions.

” ONGC wants the Bokaro PEL extended to January 27, 2012 and the North Karanpura PEL extended to November 26, 2012. ONGC also awaits formal ministry approval of six-month extensions to its Phase-II work programmes at both blocks, where it is operator with an 80% stake and partners IndianOil.

ONGC wants a backdated Phase-II extension at Bokaro to January 27, 2011, while at North Karanpura it wants a backdated Phase-II extension to September 26, 2011. In Phase-I, ONGC drilled eight coreholes and two test wells at Bokaro and nine coreholes and two test wells at North Karanpura.

In Phase-II, ONGC drilled 12 ‘pilot wells’ at Bokaro and six pilot wells at North Karanpura.
