Reliance and ONGC plan seismic tenders

Vol 10, PW 10 (07 Sep 06) News in Brief

Reliance and ONGC are both pondering significant offshore seismic surveys.

PETROWATCH learns Reliance is thinking about a 6000-sq km 3D offshore survey on the east coast, but the global shortage of boats might force it to put this back till next season. Says a source: Reliance will only pursue this if vessels are available.

Reliance is considering splitting the new 6000-sq km survey into several segments. Fugro is scheduled to begin a separate 2500-sq km survey for Reliance in November.

ONGC is planning a 14,000-km long offset 2D survey - with cables of between 16km-24-km in length - of complex hard rock Basalt formations running from north to south on the west coast of India beginning November or December this year. Contractors tell us the ONGC survey will be split into four segments and require two boats.

Conventional streamers are not suitable for this survey, we learn. Youll need two boats with the second boat 10-km behind the first.
