Cairn and Schlumberger talks on Mangala

Vol 10, PW 10 (07 Sep 06) News in Brief

Cairn Energy is talking to Schlumberger about a proposal that could see the Edinburgh-based company outsource full responsibility for crude oil production and development at its Rajasthan fields.

PETROWATCH learns Cairn is talking to the Integrated Project Management division of Schlumberger, which specialises in field development or rehabilitation; well construction and intervention; field management and production. Cairn directors are learnt to strongly support moves to outsource the development programme at the Mangala, Aishwariya and other fields at block RJ-ON-90/1 and maintain a skeleton staff to oversee the operation.

The idea is to put everything in one basket, reveals a source. If IPM is given the contract theyll be charged with everything: sourcing rigs, drilling wells, cementing, mud, logging, logistics and people.

Cairn has already outsourced the entire facilities engineering contract for its Rajasthan fields to Mustang Engineering.
