Vijay Bhushan new ONGC chief at Jorhat

Vol 20, PW 19 (15 Jun 17) News in Brief

Vijay Bhushan has taken charge of ONGC's newly carved-out Jorhat Asset replacing RK Vij who stepped down on May 31.

Speculation that Bhushan, 55, would be a temporary appointment because he is a general manager, not an executive director, has been dispelled. "Bhushan's appointment letter clearly states he is a full-fledged asset manager effective June 9," confirms a colleague.

"Today (June 12) was his first day in the asset manager's office." Bhushan, a mechanical engineer, was unavailable for comment but colleagues describe him as a "well services expert" skilled in testing programmes, HP/HT well completions plus workover planning, execution and contract management. He joined ONGC in 1983.

Carved out of the Assam Asset in April last year (2016) the 400-sq km Jorhat asset holds eight fields: Khoraghat, Nambar, Hazarigaon, Kasomarigaon, Borholla, Dayalpur, Sufayam and the ELAA installation. Vij meanwhile tells this report from Ahmedabad ONGC chairman DK Sarraf has offered him a post-retirement position as 'adviser'.

"He said don't accept other offers yet," said Vij.
