Rowan Louisiana sails from US to India

Vol 19, PW 13 (10 Mar 16) News in Brief

Jindal Drilling is poised to mobilise jack-up Rowan Louisiana to begin her three-year ONGC contract next month (April) with the rig beginning her journey to India from Houston on March 6.

"Transporting this rig is a challenge in itself," reports a Jindal source. "But the rig was loaded onto a vessel on the first attempt." Jindal has entrusted Oslo-headquartered Offshore Heavy Transport with transporting Rowan Louisiana to India.

"It's a dry tow (the rig is loaded onto a vessel instead of being directly towed in the water)," we hear. "It is onboard vessel MV Osprey which can achieve a maximum speed of 15 nautical miles." Louisiana is scheduled to reach Sikka Creek off the Gujarat coast on April 5.

"We're confident the rig can begin her contract within ONGC's mobilisation schedule," we hear. ONGC issued a LoA to Jindal hiring Louisiana on October 17, 2015 at an EDR of $47,744, after it bid lowest in Category 2 of a five jack-up tender.

ONGC gave Jindal 180 days to mobilise.
