Karimnagar doubts

Andhra Pradesh state authorities have extended the bid submission deadline for the third and hopefully last time in an EPC tender to construct a 700-MW gas-fired power station at Karimnagar in the backward Telengana region.

PETROWATCH learns the bid submission deadline has been postponed from May 11 to June 22 in response to requests from bidders. “This is the final extension,” says a source at state-owned power producer APGenco.

“On June 22 we’ll open technical bids.” Companies likely to bid for this contract include Tata Projects, Marubeni, and Larsen & Toubro in partnership with Siemens.

APGenco ideally wants cheaper D6 gas supplies to fuel Karimnagar but Andhra Pradesh wants APGenco to go ahead with the project even if it has to use expensive R-LNG. GAIL is meant to lay a 100-km gas pipeline to Karimnagar from a ‘tap-off’ point on Reliance’s East-West pipeline in the Shamirpeth area of Andhra Pradesh’s Rangareddy district.
