Modi wants gas

Vol 14, PW 17 (24 Feb 11) News in Brief

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi is demanding an allocation of 5.2m cm/d of D6 gas for five Gujarat-based retail gas players.

Modi wants the oil ministry to allocate 3m cm/d of D6 gas to GSPC’s retail arm GSPC Gas; 1m cm/d to BG subsidiary Gujarat Gas; 500,000 cm/d to Adani Gas; 500,000 cm/d to Sabarmati Gas and 200,000 cm/d to Charotar Gas. He outlined these demands on February 12 at a meeting in Gandhinagar attended by MPs from Gujarat.

Attending MPs also received copies of a Gujarati language booklet in which Modi slams Delhi for not giving Gujarat enough D6 gas, citing the following statistics: there are over 310,000 small and medium-sized factories in Gujarat; 200 CNG stations; 500,000 cars and auto-rickshaws using CNG; and, over 200,000 households using piped gas. Modi insists the government should allocate 3.15m cm/d from the PMT fields to the upcoming 2100-MW gas-fired power station being set up by the GSPC Pipavav Power Company.
