Atwood and Ensco bid for GSPC rig tender

Vol 9, PW 6 (30 Jun 05) News in Brief

Atwood Oceanics and Ensco International are the only two companies to submit bids for a two-rig tender issued by Gujarat State Petroleum, which closed on 27th June.

One surprising absentee was Transocean. Probably they dont have any spare rigs, says a GSPC source.

Global demand is high. GSPC is looking for one jack-up and one semi-submersible to drill at KG-OSN-2001/3 where the company has just reported a 20-tcf gas discovery.

Ensco is believed to have offered a jack-up while Atwood is learnt to have offered jack-up Atwood Beacon and semi-submersible Atwood Southern Cross. GSPC also holds two previous offers from Saipem and Dolphin Drilling for jack-up rigs.

We have got the validity of these two offers also extended in line with the present tender. On offer is a contract of four firm wells each for the jack-up and the semi-submersible.

Expect price bids to be opened in a week.
