Discoverer 534 released

Vol 14, PW 5 (26 Aug 10) News in Brief

Transocean deepwater drillship Discoverer 534 has completed her assignment with Reliance and is being released.

Unclear is where she will move to next. PETROWATCH learns Discoverer 534 completed well KGV-D3-W14 on August 21 at block KG-DWN-2003/1 to 3514 metres TD in 1653-metre water depths.

“This well is being plugged and abandoned,” says an industry source. “Equipment is being raised from the seabed.

” This same well was earlier being drilled by Transocean’s Deepwater Expedition but mechanical problems with the rig’s BOP forced work to halt on May 26 this year. Before coming to KGV-D3-W14, Discoverer drilled well NEC-D9-A1 in 1835-metre water depths between late-May and August 2.

Between March 31 and May 7 this year Reliance temporarily released Discoverer because of repeated breakdowns while the rig was drilling well NEC-25 AJ-9A. Discoverer struck gas at her first D6 block well in May 2002, marking Reliance’s entry into the exploration business.
