ONGC deadline for 600-metre rig

Vol 13, PW 24 (20 May 10) News in Brief

ONGC is demanding confirmations by Thursday, May 20 (today) in its tender to hire a semi-submersible that can drill in 600-metre water depths for three years from December 2010.

PETROWATCH learns ONGC sent clarifications to Essar Oilfields, Transocean and Dolphin Drilling around May 14 about their bids. “But these are routine and concern no major technical or commercial problems,” says an industry source.

ONGC’s tender committee will now meet in a week, he adds, to examine the replies. It could open price bids in the first week of June, and issue the LoI the same month.

When technical bids were opened on March 5, Great Offshore was disqualified for providing insufficient details. Dolphin is not seen as a serious bidder because its semi-submersible Blackford Dolphin is already on contract with Reliance while Essar Wildcat is on a short-term contract offshore Vietnam till September.

Transocean’s Global Santa Fe 135 is with Total offshore Congo.
