MRPL gets director technical

Vol 13, PW 20 (25 Mar 10) News in Brief

After years of trying, ONGC’s refining subsidiary MRPL has convinced the Department of Public Enterprises to create the new position of director technical.

PETROWATCH learns the DPE gave its authorisation last month (February) for this new position, which will take the number of full time MRPL directors from two to three. “This proposal has been around for years,â€‌ confirms a MRPL source.

“But independent directors on our board and the DPE regularly blocked it because they believed the post was unnecessary.â€‌ But MRPL successfully argued it needed a director technical to handle its ongoing refinery expansion and future projects.

Only then did the DPE finally relent. On March 16, the PESB advertised the position and interested candidates must submit CVs by May 20.

On February 10, MRPL announced it had increased the capacity of its 9.69m t/y refinery in Karnataka to 11.82m t/y. By October 2011, MRPL hopes to bring total nameplate capacity of its refinery up 15.49m t/y.
