Working at junior state-owned oil explorer Oil India is clearly a highly prized assignment.

PETROWATCH learns 35 candidates are competing for the Oil India director human resources post. The PESB has fixed interviews for March 11 and 12 to replace Ashok Anand who retires on April 30.

Company sources tell us general manager human resources Anjan Hazarika based in Duliajan now leads the earlier frontrunner, general manager human resources and business development NK Bharali, based at its Noida headquarters. “Bharali is supported by chairman NM Borah,â€‌ says a source.

“But Hazarika is supported by Maharashtra politicians.â€‌ Hazarika’s wife is from Maharashtra, we hear, and her family has very strong political connections.

Oil minister Murli Deora is also from Maharashtra, we are reminded. KK Nath, PN Baruah and S.

Rath are the other OIL India candidates, with the rest from ONGC, HPCL, Indian Oil, GAIL and other state-owned companies.
