ONGC rig tender attracts 35 firms

Vol 17, PW 14 (27 Feb 14) News in Brief

ONGC has sold 35 sets of tender documents for its January 25 tender to hire 11 jack-ups for three years.

Companies hoping to break into the Indian jack-up market for the first time include Dubai-based SMS Group; Varada-HvR Drilling, a JV set up by ABG’s owner VC Agrawal; Singapore-based rig builder Asian Offshore; Dubai-based shipowner Arina Offshore Marine Services and Delhi’s EnQuest Drilling. Middle East specialists Strata Oilfield Services, who previously managed a jack-up for ONGC in the early 90s, also bought documents.

ONGC is holding a pre-bid in Mumbai on March 3. Drillers think ONGC might be forced to extend the April 3 bid deadline by more than two weeks because of the number of bidders.

Jack-ups Noble Kenneth Delaney, Noble Ed Holt, Aban-III, Aban-IV, Trident-II, Deepsea Fossil and Deepsea Fortune are already drilling for ONGC and could be offered for re-hire. “ONGC can expect bids around $90,000/day,” we hear.
