Discoverer 534 spuds NEC-25 well

Vol 13, PW 16 (28 Jan 10) News in Brief

Deepwater drillship Discoverer 534 has â€کspud’ a third appraisal well for Reliance at Mahanadi basin NELP-I gas discovery block NEC-OSN-97/2, also known as NEC-25.

According to an industry source, it will take about 45 days to drill this well, which was spud on January 20. No details of water depth or TD are available.

Reliance (90%) operates this prospective 10,755-sq km block offshore West Bengal in partnership with Canada’s Niko Resources (10%). Seven discoveries have been reported at NEC-25 since 2003, together holding about 2.3-tcf of â€کin-place’ gas, according to reserves consultant Gaffney Cline & Associates.

In the second NEC-25 appraisal well AJ2, which was â€کcompleted’ in early January, Reliance encountered good hydrocarbon bearing reservoir sands between 2484 and 2495 metres. Reliance has shot more than 6000-lkm 2D and 3200-sq km 3D at NEC-25 but still awaits approval of a development plan submitted to the DGH.
