Global begins Ravva 4D survey

Vol 13, PW 13 (03 Dec 09) News in Brief

Global Geophysical has begun a 280-sq km 4D acquisition for Cairn India at the ageing Ravva oil and gasfield off the east coast.

Rumours that the survey would be postponed until next year have been put to rest. PETROWATCH learns Global acquired a few â€کtest shots’ at Ravva using the Ocean Bottom Cable (OBC) method on December 1.

“Global has brought in a few support boats and equipment for the job,â€‌ says an industry source, “and also hired some Indian vessels.â€‌ If Global had not mobilised by December 1, Cairn would have had the right to terminate the contract.

Global is expected to complete seismic acquisition by March next year, but as of December 2 had not yet begun â€کformal’ acquisition due to bad weather. Cairn has chosen to acquire 4D at Ravva to get a better picture of how much oil or gas is left in â€کtraps’ in the reservoir, we hear.

Cairn (22.5% and operator) partners Marubeni-backed Ravva Oil (12.5%), Petrocon (25%) and ONGC (40%) at Ravva.
