GAIL finishes Kochi R-LNG survey

Vol 13, PW 12 (19 Nov 09) News in Brief

GAIL has completed a preliminary route survey for customers who want to receive R-LNG from the 2.5m t/y LNG terminal in Kochi.

Phase-I will focus on supplying gas through a 12-inch spur line linked to a trunk pipeline from Kochi to Kanjirakode, delivering gas to eight customers in and around Ernakulam district. The pipeline will be ready by end-2011 or early 2012, in time for expected completion of the terminal.

Among the customers are Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore, Kochi Refineries, Apollo Tyres and Reliance Energy’s power station. Added up, the total length of the Phase-I pipelines will be about 50-km.

GAIL estimates these customers will need 5m cm/d R-LNG. Kerala authorities meanwhile have appointed deputy collector NK Sundareshan as the â€کcompetent authority’ for land acquisition for the Kerala portion of the pipelines from the Kochi terminal.

Sundareshan is expected to issue a public announcement next March ahead of any land acquisition.
