Weather hits MA production hike

Vol 13, PW 11 (05 Nov 09) News in Brief

Bad weather is delaying an increase in production at the Reliance-operated MA oilfield, which lies within the D6 licence.

PETROWATCH learns Reliance has yet to hook up well MA-6H to the Dhirubhai 1 FPSO. “Barges can’t go to sea in this weather,â€‌ says a DGH source.

“Underwater currents are very strong and make it difficult to do any subsea work.â€‌ MA-6H was completed by Deepwater Frontier in mid-August and is expected to add between 6000 b/d and 8000 b/d to existing oil production from three MA wells currently hovering at between 10,500 b/d and 11,000 b/d.

Reliance attempted to hook up MA-6H in October and did not succeed, but the weather should soon improve, we hear – the best time to carry out eastern offshore subsea work is between November and February. Meanwhile Deepwater Frontier is drilling the fifth oil producing well MA-7H to TD of 6000 metres.

It should produce between 3000 to 4000 b/d and be completed in five to seven days, said a source.
