Gujarat Gas slashes RSL to 33%

Gujarat Gas has announced a further cut in gas supplies to customers.

PETROWATCH learns on July 31 the BG-owned retailer texted 1000 piped gas customers in Surat, Bharuch and Ankleshwar to announce that the Restricted Supply Level (RSL) for August would be reduced to an all-time low of 33%. “We cannot say when this RSL will be lifted,â€‌ says Gujarat Gas.

Any customer taking more than 33% of its Daily Contracted Quantity (DCQ) must now pay Rs14.852/cubic metre plus taxes. “Over the past few months,â€‌ complains an industry source, “Gujarat Gas is unable to supply 100% of its DCQ.

â€‌ In April, the RSL was 69%, in May it was 62%, in June it was 71%, and in July it was 68%. Gujarat Gas blames this month’s all-time low on Force Majeure at the Panna, Mukta and Tapti fields since July 25.

GAIL accounts for nearly 75% of the 3m cm/d that Gujarat Gas supplies. But because of the Force Majeure, GAIL’s own supplies reduced from the average 17m cm/d to 13.5m cm/d.
