AFCONS emerged lowest bidder to set up berthing facilities for LNG tankers at Kochi’s proposed LNG terminal with a quote of “less than $60mâ€‌ when price bids were opened at Petronet-LNG’s office on June 30.

Other bidders Punj Lloyd and ITD Cementation quoted “higher than AFCONSâ€‌, we hear. “Each company tied-up with an international company with experience in design and engineering marine facilities for LNG terminals,â€‌ says a source.

“All the major contracts for the terminal have now been awarded.â€‌ Petronet-LNG will issue a Letter of Award after board approval on July 18.

“The letter can be issued within one week after directors approve,â€‌ we hear. AFCONS must finish the job within 30 months from the date of award - 28 months for mechanical completion and two months for time overruns.

On June 25, Petronet-LNG hired CTCI of Taiwan to set up regassification facilities at Kochi and on March 7 IHI won the contract to set up LNG storage tanks.
