Vol 13, PW 1 (18 Jun 09) News in Brief

Jubilant Energy is continuing its tradition of appointing expatriate Chief Operations Officers! PETROWATCH learns that on Monday June 8, Maxwell Birley spent his first day at the company HQ in Noida familiarising himself with his new surroundings.

“He doesn’t have an e-mail ID or a desk yet,â€‌ reports a source. “He’s just started.

â€‌ UK national and 51-year old Birley’s CV boasts an impressive list of senior management positions with companies like Pakistan-headquartered Orient Petroleum, Canada-based Northwest Energy and UK-based Premier Oil. “I left Premier in 2000,â€‌ Birley tells us.

“After that I mostly worked with companies in West Africa.â€‌ First among his priorities, says Birley, is “to understand the company’s assets by meeting the technical teams.

â€‌ A relative newcomer to exploration, Jubilant has interests in 12 oil and gas blocks: eight in India, three in Yemen and one in Australia. Birley replaces Australian George Green, who left Jubilant some months ago.
