Choubey resignation rumour grows

Speculation is growing that GAIL chairman UD Choubey might resign five months before his term ends to take up a new post as director general of SCOPE (the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises), a prestigious post-retirement pasture for former state-owned company chairmen.

When contacted, some GAIL insiders wondered aloud if PETROWATCH had not gone mad. “You must be out of your mind,â€‌ says an industry source.

“Why would he resign He has only five months left before he retires.â€‌ But another industry source insisted we check further and the rumour grew stronger.

“I hear that Choubey plans to resign to take up the SCOPE assignment,â€‌ he said. One reason Choubey might leave GAIL early, we hear, is because the five-year post at SCOPE is open only until April.

“He must join SCOPE by April or lose the chance.â€‌ Another says Choubey is routinely notified about possible new jobs, but doubts a resignation is imminent.
