Jha wins IOC director pipelines post

Vol 12, PW 18 (12 Feb 09) News in Brief

Laying more gas pipelines and forging alliances with gas producers will be a priority for IOC’s new director pipelines KK Jha.

Currently executive director projects in IOC’s pipeline division, 57-year old Jha will replace PK Chakraborti, who retires on September 1. “We need to lay more gas pipelines,â€‌ Jha told PETROWATCH after his selection by the Public Enterprises Selection Board on February 4 from among 29 candidates, including IOC executive director exploration VS Okhde.

“Ideally we should work with a gas producer to maximise the business, like GAIL which has an advantage as the government’s nominee to transport gas.â€‌ But Jha says IOC has advantages of its own, including laying pipelines cost effectively.

“Everything from design, laying, supervising and commissioning is done by us,â€‌ he says. “We don’t appoint project management consultants like others.

â€‌ Jha adds that expansion of crude and product pipeline projects by IOC would continue at a quick pace.
