Vol 12, PW 14 (27 Nov 08) News in Brief

Twenty-four candidates have applied to be the next director pipelines at Indian Oil to replace PK Chakraborti, who steps down on August 31 next year.

KK Jha, executive director in the projects office at Noida and overseeing the pipeline division, has the most chance. “But he will have only two years in the post,â€‌ says a source.

AK Roy, executive director at Haldia refinery is also seen as a contender because he is “bright and youngâ€‌. Last but not least is VS Okhde, executive director in IOC’s corporate office charged with exploration.

“Okhde is a pipelines man,â€‌ we hear. “Before coming to the corporate office as ED he was pipelines general manager in the western region.

â€‌ Some believe Okhde can become director pipelines when the post comes up again. “Age is on his side,â€‌ we hear.

“He can try again even if Jha gets it this time.â€‌ Whoever gets the post will have to carry out the uphill task of regaining Indian Oil’s prestige as a dominant player in the pipelines business.
