Cairn set to appraise RX-8 at Ravva

Vol 11, PW 15 (29 Nov 07) News in Brief

Cairn India has set mid-January as the tentative spud date of an appraisal well to gauge the extent of the RX-8 discovery at its Ravva oil and gasfield, announced in July this year.

PETROWATCH learns Cairn has more or less firmed up the location and coordinates of the planned appraisal well but is waiting for jack-up Hercules 31 to complete a three-well workover programme designed to add another 4000 b/d to Ravva production. Last week Hercules 31 reached well location RE-2 to begin the second workover following successful completion of well RD-3.

Hercules 31 is expected to stay at well location RE-2 for another 20 days before moving to well location RE-1. Earlier plans to drill RE-1 before RE-2 were dropped because of rig movement issues.

“RE-2 is closer to well RD-3 than the RE-1 well,â€‌ we hear. “Rig’s movement will take less time.

â€‌ In July this year Cairn announced three DSTs at RX-8 produced flow rates of between 1150 b/d and 1850 b/d.
